How did working in the south help you in Bollywood?
In the south, we go through the grind. It is an absolute learning process. I have worked there for five years and am still going strong. I want to strike a balance between the industries.

Usually, actresses who do not make it big in Bollywood turn to the south...
That’s what most people in the north think, but that isn’t true. It’s a matter of a region accepting you and you proving your mettle.

What’s keeping you busy?
Three Hindi films — one with Hurman Baweja titled It’s My Life; Life Partner, an Abbas-Mastan film; and Hook Ya Crook, by David Dhawan.

Your biggest rival in Bollywood?
I compete with myself. I’m doing fantastic films. Each role is a dream and I want to give it my best shot.

You shot a couple of scenes for Ghajini and then Asin took over?
I never shot for Ghajini, though I have the Hindi and the Tamil versions. And Asin is a very talented actress. I’m glad that girls from the south are making it big in Bollywood.

The buzz is that you are not on talking terms with Imran Khan, your hit co-star?
Absolutely not true! We met at Slumdog Millionaire’s premiere, hugged each other and are doing fine.

As a brand ambassador for Fanta, how do you react to the health minister’s stand against celebrities endorsing junk food and fizzy drinks?
He has his point. But there are ways of keeping fit and healthy. You can have the best of health food and still remain unhealthy.

A burger is not just fast food... it adds fun and excitement to that moment. Life is full of surprises and enjoyment, and I don’t think we should put a curb on them.

How do you relate to the Fanta apple flavour that was just launched?
It’s exciting, fresh. Apple is my personal favourite.

Bollywood actress Genelia D'Souza has been appointed as brand ambassador for Fanta, the orange drink brand from Coca Cola. She will endorse the new variant of the drink, Fanta Apple, in a television commercial to begin with, that has been rolled out alongside the national launch of the product.

Venkatesh Kini, vice-president, marketing, Coca-Cola India, says, "Apple is one of the most preferred fruits in the country. This product has been developed specially for Indian palates, and is a step towards strengthening the company's market leadership in the fruit flavored sparkling drink segment."

The Fanta Apple TVC opens on a party, where Genelia and her mother are enjoying themselves. To their intense annoyance, a matchmaker lady, refuses to let them be. A young boy serving Fanta Apple makes Genelia think of a brilliant idea to drive the lady away.

She begins to refer to Fanta Apple, while making Aunty believe that she is talking about the boy who offered it. As Genelia begins to make remarks such as "This is new", "Feel like tasting it", "Tastes crispy, just like an apple"; the lady begins to withdraw. Finally, she runs away when Genelia asks her, "Should I get one for you as well?" The film ends with Genelia enticing consumers to bite into the world of apples, for Fanta Apple with the tag line, 'Go Bite'.

O&M Delhi handles Fanta and is one of the roster agencies for Coca Cola. The film has been conceptualised by Ajay Gahlaut, creative head, O&M, Delhi. Bauddhayan Mukherji of Little lamb Films has directed the film.

‘Weather’ Genelia loves it

The Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na actress was in Delhi recently and insisted that she would not talk about anything but the brand that she was in Delhi for. In the midst of conversation, however, she did reveal that she loves Delhi for the, by now oft-repeated reason – its weather. “I love the city’s weather,” she said.

The actor also revealed that she finds John Abraham very hot. “Oh! He is very hot and I am going to work with him in my next film,” she said, blushing.
